Salary and Benefits

Annual Salary: R216,417 (exclusive of remuneration package benefits)

Key Responsibilities

Physical Security Functions

The Senior Security Officer will be responsible for several key outputs to maintain a secure environment:

  • Shift Management: Compile, implement, and manage shift plans and posting sheets.
  • Supervision: Oversee personnel from a private security company contracted to the National Treasury.
  • Shift Leadership: Perform duties as a shift leader, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to policies.
  • Access Control: Implement and enforce access control policies and procedures. Arrange escorts for employees and visitors, and facilitate secure movements between National Treasury buildings.
  • Asset Control: Implement an asset control system, monitor removal permits, and ensure proper maintenance of records.
  • Inspections: Conduct regular inspections within the building to identify and rectify any security issues.
  • Key Control: Enforce key control procedures and maintain accurate records.

Control Room Functions

  • Surveillance: Perform security surveillance and monitoring duties within the control room.
  • Access Management: Assign access cards to employees and visitors, draw access reports, and identify breaches.
  • Liaison: Communicate with National Treasury employees on behalf of the Security Management unit.

Health and Safety

  • Deficiency Identification: Identify and investigate health and safety deficiencies, reporting findings to Physical Security Operations.
  • Emergency Response: Act as Chief Contingency Officer during emergencies until the arrival of the relevant personnel.
  • Equipment Inspection: Ensure security and fire equipment are in good condition.
  • Emergency Participation: Participate in emergency evacuations and drills, providing first aid assistance when necessary.

General Operational Administration

  • Register Management: Maintain accurate registers at access points.
  • Permit Filing: Ensure proper filing of removal permits.
  • Service Level Agreement: Enforce the agreement between National Treasury and the Private Security Company.
  • Shift Parades: Address and manage parades during shifts.

Requirements

To be considered for the Senior Security Officer position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Minimum of Grade 12.
  • Certification: Security Officers PSIRA Grade A.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a physical security environment.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the following acts and standards:
    • Minimum Information Security Standards
    • Firearms Control Act
    • Protection of Information Act
    • Control of Access to Premises and Vehicles Act
    • Trespass Act
    • Occupational Health and Safety Act
