Minimum Educational and Experience Requirements
- Educational Qualification: A minimum of a matric certificate.
- Professional Certification: Grade C Security Certificate (registered with PSIRA).
- Experience: At least one year of relevant experience in the security industry, which will be an advantage.
- Additional Requirements:
- A valid driver’s license.
- Familiarity with key legislative acts and standards such as the Minimum Information Security Standard (MISS), Minimum Physical Security Standard (MPSS), Criminal Procedure Act, and the National Key Point Act.
Skills and Competencies
Candidates must demonstrate:
- Basic computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive attitude.
Detailed Duties and Responsibilities
This role is designed to maintain security and ensure a safe environment for all court users and officials. Responsibilities include access control, equipment monitoring, and strict adherence to security protocols.
1. Access Control and Crowd Management
- Monitor entry points and verify the identity of individuals entering the premises.
- Enforce the Public Access Control Act to prevent unauthorized access.
- Conduct searches to detect and prevent the entry of harmful objects, such as firearms.
- Control and guide crowds effectively within the court premises.
2. Visitor Management
- Ensure the secure escorting of visitors to their intended destinations within the facility.
- Maintain visitor logs, recording necessary details before escorting them.
- Update and maintain the security registers meticulously.
3. Risk Assessment and Threat Monitoring
- Assist the Chief Security Officer in conducting risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities.
- Regularly observe court proceedings to monitor for potential security risks.
- Report any suspicious or unattended items immediately to the supervisor.
4. Equipment and Infrastructure Security
- Ensure all security equipment, including x-ray machines and metal detectors, is functional and calibrated.
- Supervise outsourced security personnel and confirm their adherence to protocol.
- Check security personnel’s equipment, pocketbooks, and uniform compliance.
5. Control Room Operations
- Monitor surveillance footage, respond to security alarms, and manage the biometric access system.
- Document occurrences in the control room maintenance log, keeping an accurate record of all security events.
- Respond promptly to internal and external calls, as well as email inquiries regarding security matters.
6. Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Compliance
- Conduct routine fire equipment checks, evacuation drills, and ensure emergency exits are unobstructed.
- Draft and maintain OHS reports, coordinate committee meetings, and ensure first aid boxes are stocked.
- Organize bomb sweeps and other preventive security measures as necessary.
